It’s one of the hottest days. After leaving our friends, we make a stopp in Avignion. Enjoying a very delicious blunch and strolling a bit through the old town. Quiet town today, art and theater seems to play an important role. Like it a lot, would love to come back another time, when streets are filled with life and temperatures more moderate.

We check-in at our accommodation and need a nap, first of all. A bit time at the pool then getting ready for a tour through the village and it’s famous moulins. Later in the evening we see some traditional dancing, like a farondole.

Such a lovely pre-start, encountering that golden cat, host of a nearby restaurant. Sensing our interest he approaches both of us in turn to rob his flanks to our legs.

Then we fetch our running shoes and set for a loop on the Sentier des Moulins. I have been here with my family as a kid. Don’t recall much but makes me happy to be here. The smells of pine, southern plants and the voluminous concert of cicadas. They have a blast in this heat.

Sad sight when we reach the first Windmill, the Moulin Alphonse Daudet. An announcement on the door explains the current situation and it’s rather dire, the mill could soon fall down. The municipality has been found guilty of not taking good care of that Monument classé.

We continue the loop to see a far better preserved mill further down. A local strikes a conversation with us telling us how the stones from the area are sought after. Used in the harbor of Marseille and even Rome.

We circle the Chateau de Montauban another familiar spot to Alphonse Daudet. What a lovely outing at the end of yet another heated day. I’v read that since the 21st of June, UN reports more 1000 deaths due to the heatwave in Europe.
