#4 🐮

We set off in the early morning - a bit rainy - for a four-K loop, this time following the river upstream through the village. I enjoy my slow pace, and we cross the river over a small bridge. It feels like a rediscovery, as I haven’t walked this path in a while. On our return, I soak up the colours that wrap around us, forming a green canopy overhead. A cute newborn calf, vulnerable and well protected by the rest of the herd, watches us with innocent curiosity.

As we near the village, I suggest he set off for a “real run” — he’s hesitant at first, but after a bit more nudging, he takes off. I let him go and turn toward home, lingering in my thoughts.

Just before I reach it, I look back — and see, as if in slow motion, that he is sprinting at full speed towards me. I walk backward, not wanting to miss a second. His face is lit up, eyes beaming, a wide, radiant smile. When he catches up, he sweeps me into his arms and spins me around.

A moment suspended in time — one I never want to forget. Ever.

Early start, in the rain we head for a lovely loop along the Sense. Refreshing to admire those deep shades of green as we jog alongside. She wears my rain jacket, too big for her, for what reason does that make me happy? Hard to say, I’m just fond of my life at her side.

We are both joyful at the sight of this calf lying on the field, surrounded by his tribe.

As we cross the bridge back to Neuenegg, she’s the one suggesting I go for an extension on my own. I hesitate, that was not the plan. Then I think I could manage to add a small loop and still join her before reaching home.

That works, we reach home together, my pulses high, the heart beating joy and contentment.

An awesome way to start our day.
