Early birds today!
Before the shops open, we are heading to Laupenau. Mood is good. We start with brisk walking. I try to change pace but quickly realize it’s not for me today—my joints are in pain. But I simply enjoy being out, and a slower pace allows you to observe more.
As we walk, I catch something out of the corner of my eye on the gravel road - a darkish shape, maybe a bug? But the tiny legs are bent. I walk backwards to get a better look, and it’s a baby frog, clearly on his first journey - I’m delighted! Seeing his vulnerable state touches me. I check him out for a bit, then we move on.
As we continue, I start to notice many more of his siblings and cousins on the same journey. They’re clearly crossing from the place where they first touched land, trying to reach the swampy grounds of the nature reserve. I feel like helping all of them cross the road - but I refrain. It’s one of their first challenges in life. They’ll figure it out. Trust the process!
A little further on, we are blessed to hear the dusk concert of their grown-up relatives—who will win the bride?
In need for a change of surrounding, we drive to Laupen Au for an early jog. That must be the first time we come here at dawn, how fantastic. The light, the dawn chorus (birds and that guy running his stereo at 100db), we enjoy tremendously our start into this day.
Little gem notices (each time now, that reminds me the snail episode) minuscule frogs crossing our path. They are plenty in fact, once you notice you see dozens of them. They must measure no more than 10 millimeters.
Along the pond we don’t see them but we do hear them, the real ones, des Rainettes. The noisy dudes trying attract some attention, how manly is that…
I let little gem heading back to the car, just after admiring a massive deer crossing the field. For my part, I run one more loop adding 800 meters or so to this activity.
What a wonderful start, could not be more blessed. Thank You.
